Meanwhile, the South African ministry of justice and correctional services said it knew nothing of the Gupta's release.

They said their last update on the duo remained.

Last month, the ministry expressed frustration at the long wait for an update on the status of the extradition application it filed with the UAE.  

Minister Ronald Lamola expressed his concern after a visit by the department’s Central Authority to the UAE to ensure that the application meets the requirements of the UAE authorities.

The Guptas are wanted back in SA to face criminal charges on two matters - namely the so-called Nulane and Estina cases.
