ANC eThekwini Region top brass addressing media on Wednesday.
- The ANC in eThekwini announced new people to head up municipal committees.
- It includes candidates from other political parties who helped the ANC maintain control of the region.
- The NFP and EFF were thrust into key leadership positions.
The ANC announced the deployment of new political heads and chairpersons to various committees in the eThekwini Metro.
Amid criticism from the public, the regional secretary of ANC eThekwini, Musa Nciki, said there had been ongoing discussions to re-evaluate the state of the city.
Flanked by the mayor of eThekwini, Mxolisi Kaunda, during a media briefing at the region's head offices in Durban, Nciki announced several key changes, which included some opposition ally party leaders taking up key positions.
"As the ANC, we have listened to constructive criticisms and comments on various social media platforms and in the mainstream media. These have revolved around what the people of eThekwini believe are weaknesses and strengths of their municipality," he said.
The changes include the appointment of:
- The ANC's Thembo Ntuli as chairperson of the economic development, planning and trading services committee;
- The ANC's Snenhlanhla Sishange as the whip of the council;
- The National Freedom Party's (NFP) Zandile Myeni as chairperson of the newly established security and emergency services committee; and
- The EFF's Thabani Miya as chairperson of the human settlements and infrastructure committee.
Nciki also announced that the ANC had accepted the resignation of Ntokozo Sibiya as chairperson of the ethics committee.
"Processes are under way to fill this vacancy," he said.
Nciki said calls from the public would be taken into consideration when making committee appointments.

"We reiterate our position that all political parties in the city represent the aspirations of the people. As the government party, we undertake to ensure the cooperation of all political parties in the interest of service delivery.
"We have, therefore, agreed on the reconfiguration of the municipal committees in order to sharpen and strengthen our service delivery machinery."
Nciki said the DA's recommendation of Tino Pillay as a member of the ethics committee was "noted".
"We affirm our position, as the ANC in the region, that real politics involving all political parties in the council should be about efforts to meet the needs of the people.
"This reconfiguration we have announced is aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of citizens and stakeholders in eThekwini," he said.
