The body of missing Asithandile Hoko, 13, has been found, two weeks after he was reported missing in Sterkspruit.

The body of a missing Eastern Cape teen has been found, two weeks after he was reported missing in Sterkspruit. 

On Friday, 4 November, 13-year-old Asithandile Hoko left his New Rest home and went to visit his mother in Thuntubele.

He never returned home, said Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse.

Hoko's grandmother reported him missing on Monday, 7 November.

His route would have seen him cross the Ezingwenyameni River, and police divers conducted a search for him. However, the operation was hampered by heavy rains and strong currents, said Roelofse.

Hoko's body was found on the banks of the river in Silindini over the weekend, she added.

"A fisherman from the area went down to the river and saw the body trapped among rocks. He then alerted the police."

Roelofse confirmed that the teen had drowned.
