Locals are advised of water supply disruptions in the Helderberg Estate residential areas on Tuesday (16 May).

• Tshwane residents have been hit by water shortages for days. 
• According to City of Tshwane, a 250mm pipeline burst on Thursday. 
• Complications following the repair to the pipeline meant that water has not been restored in some areas. 

Tshwane residents have been experiencing water shortages since Thursday due to complications from a repair to a burst pipeline in the Pretoria industrial area.

Areas experiencing water shortages include Wespark, Kwaggasrand, Proclamation Hill, Pretoria Industrial, and the SAPS Training College in Pretoria West. The municipality said in a statement that problems started after a 250mm pipeline burst in the Pretoria industrial area on Thursday. 

The City's technicians attempted to repair the pipeline on Friday. However, complications after the repair meant higher-lying parts of the suburbs went without water. 

"The reservoir levels are critically low and are not picking up, which are aggravating the situation. The water consumption in these areas is also higher than the inflow into the reservoir," the municipality said in a statement.

City spokesperson Selby Bokaba, said while some residents received water on Friday evening, others have been left without water since the pipeline burst.

Bokaba said the City has been experiencing troubles with pipeline repairs. "Water tankers will be deployed to assist with the supply of water to the residents in the affected areas until the water supply system normalises," he said.

The municipality has also urged residents to use water sparingly.
