The Gauteng legislature's Portfolio Committee on Community Safety on Friday called for the speedy arrest of the perpetrators responsible for the murders of two Soweto boys whose bodies were found mutilated after they disappeared earlier this week.
Committee chairperson Bandile Masuku said they were concerned that such heinous crimes, especially against vulnerable children, were still being committed.
"Perpetrators of this gruesome act should be taught the harshest lesson and be made an example that in this country, such horrible acts of crime will not be tolerated (sic)," Masuku said.

Earlier, News24 reported that residents, including patrollers, spent Wednesday night frantically combing the area for the missing boys. Their bodies were found in separate locations on Thursday morning, with some of their body parts missing.

Residents of Rockville, Soweto, supported the mourning women, sang songs and prayed.
Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela said one boy was discovered in White City while the other was discovered later in Rockville. Mawela said he had mobilised police resources to hunt down the culprits.

Masuku called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly in bringing those responsible to book so they could face the "full might of the law".
"The committee calls on any members of the community who might have information that can lead to the arrest of these culprits to bring this to the attention of law enforcement agencies.
"The committee further wishes to extend its condolences to the families of the deceased learners and commits its support to following up on this matter until the perpetrators are arrested."
