Three separate shootings claimed the lives of three people, including a pupil, in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday.
Paramedic services responded to reports of a shooting involving a 17-year-old pupil in the Ntshawini area, near KwaDukuza.
The Chief Albert Luthuli Secondary School pupil is believed to have been targeted sometime after 14:00.
"On arrival, it was found that a Grade 8 pupil, on her way home from school, sustained a single, fatal gunshot wound. Sadly, there was nothing that medics could do and she was declared [dead] on scene," said IPSS spokesperson Samantha Meyrick.

She said a single person was believed to be involved in the incident.
The area was demarcated as a crime scene, with police in attendance to investigate.
Also on Thursday afternoon, a person believed to be a taxi boss in the Ndwedwe area, was shot and killed in the Ottawa area near Verulam, just outside Durban.

A spokesperson for private security company Reaction Unit SA, Prem Balram, said the man was found dead, slumped in the seat of his Ford Ranger bakkie.
He was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and body. Police were on scene to investigate.

On Thursday morning, one person was killed in an alleged shooting incident on the M7 highway, near Main Road in Durban around 10:00.
A spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Medical Services, Garrith Jamieson, said paramedics arrived on the scene to "find total carnage".
He said:
It is believed that a single vehicle was involved in a shooting incident before overturning across the centre island and coming to rest on its side.
"A male believed to be in his forties was found inside the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds to his body."
Jamieson said the man was assessed by paramedics, but had sustained fatal injuries.
"There was nothing more paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.
"At this stage, the events leading up to the incident are unknown, but SAPS are on the scene and will be investigating further."
