Parktown police are investigating the cause of a fiery crash in Robertsham, Booysens, on Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at 06:00.

"Investigations suggest that the Mercedes-Benz collided with the NP 200, and both cars caught fire," Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo told News24.

Footage of the incident was shared on social media. 

Two passengers travelling in a white Nissan NP 200 bakkie were injured in the crash and rushed to the nearest hospital.

"It is alleged that, after the two vehicles caught fire, the two occupants of the Mercedes-Benz got into a BMW and fled the scene," Masondo said.

Police have urged the public to come forward if they have any information regarding the incident.
