Zweli Mkhize, Pravin Gordhan out in the cold as they miss out on ANC NEC

Former health minister Zweli Mkhize and public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan are among high-profile ANC leaders who have failed to make it into the party's powerful structure, the national executive committee.

Their names were not among the newly elected NEC members announced on Wednesday by electoral committee chair Kgalema Motlanthe.

Mkhize lost his presidential bid after losing to Cyril Ramaphosa at the ANC 55th national conference held in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg.

However, some of his allies — including Phumulo Masualle, who was defeated by Fikile Mbalula for the position of secretary-general — have made the NEC cut.

Pule Mabe and Mzwandile Masina, who also lost their attempt at controlling the ANC purse, have also made it.
